Expertise

My research focuses on open access (OA) publishing, open educational resources, and reforms of the broken scholarly communications ecosystem. My work is driven by a commitment to the social justice principles at the heart of the OA movement, and a passion for preventing scientific knowledge from being locked behind expensive paywalls. As the OA movement matures, it is critical to prevent the inequities of the subscription-based system of scholarly publishing, monopolized by a handful of commercial publishers, from reappearing in the form of article processing charges and other developments antithetical to the free circulation of scientific knowledge around the world.
