Abstract
The article examines archaeological and anthropological data from the excavations at Polystylon/Abdira. The historical testimonies from the last century of Byzantium are combined with the paleopathological evidence from the skeletal remains of a Byzantine warrior, and the condition of the people is illuminated, especially during the years of the siege of the fortress Polystylon (ancient Abdira) by the Ottomans and the desperate resistance of its defenders.
