Abstract

Psychotherapy--Research Personality Alcohol or Alcoholism Mental Depression Obesity Psychodynamics Dependency
Researchers suggest that having a dependent personality orientation increases the risk for a variety of psychological problems, including depression, alcoholism, obesity, and tobacco dependence. These findings are reviewed and their implications are discussed in the context of psychodynamic formulations regarding dependency. Methodological issues in the study of the dependency-pathology link are considered, and suggestions are made for future research efforts in this area.
