Abstract
The panel discussion organized for the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Atlanta, on January 21, 2017 focused on how academic libraries at institutions large and small have taken varied approaches to building campus support for OA. Achieving sustainable support for campus OA initiatives can be challenging. More and more campuses are adopting OA policies and that demonstrates awareness and support for OA. The panel explored various issues surrounding the costs of building a sustainable scholarly communication program, including redirecting staffing resources to newer areas such as public access support, research networking services, research data, institutional repositories (IR), open educational resources, copyright education, and open publishing. The panel also explored ways to fund OA publishing by campus authors, as well as implementing an OA collection development policy to more deliberately identify and add OA resources to library collections.
