Abstract

Injection lasers Semiconductor lasers Diodes Physics
We use current modulation of an external-cavity diode laser in conjunction with optical injection locking of a free-running diode laser to produce a high output power of rapidly frequency-chirped light. Chirp rates exceeding 15 GHz/μs have been demonstrated with this simple system. An important consequence of the injection locking is the significant reduction of amplitude modulation in the output.
