Abstract
This paper presents the results of a physical anthropological investigation of osteological material from ancient Abdera, dating back to the Hellenistic period. The good preservation of a skeletal sample of 48 individuals, consisting of both sexes and of different ages, allowed for detailed laboratory analyses of skeletal biology, paleopathology, and archaeometry. The scientific data of this study shed light on many aspects of the demographic field, the paleopathological assemblage, and the peculiarities of the skeletal-muscular reliefs among men and women of this era in Abdera, thus enabling more precise diachronic comparisons to be made between the populations of this area from the Archaic to the Post-Byzantine period.
