Locally and globally, the current state of health among vulnerable communities is alarming. Mortality and morbidity rates for chronic health conditions and illnesses are high among black and brown communities due to known and unknown reasons. To combat health issues, online education is used to inform and influence health behavioral changes; however, little is known about Black/African American learners in online, asynchronous public-health courses. It is evident that working within vulnerable communities does not automatically signify that individual or community voices are being heard, and although public health education programs are designed for the community-at-large, online public-health education necessitates individual perspectives since learners are the sole navigators in asynchronous learning. Due to limited research related to this area, both quantitative and qualitative research are most appropriate to provide a deeper level of insight. First, individual interviews will break through the silence surrounding Black/African-American learners’ unexplored experiences with online public-health education and disclose their individual voices. Second, the quasi-experimental design will establish the cause and effect relationship between the intervention and research participants. Study participants are 100 Black/African-American learners in an online, asynchronous public-health course. Data collection occurred by way of a pre-test, post-test, and evaluation form with Likert scales, close-ended, and open-ended questions. Descriptive, inferential, and multivariate statistics will aid quantitative data analysis. Equally, themes from qualitative data will aid with content and contextual analysis. The results will contribute to actions in aggregate-centered care, health equity, wellness, and health promotion among vulnerable populations.
