Abstract
This paper examines the question (1) How can digital technological disruption be managed to achieve a successful transition to a human-centred and sustainable future of work? The paper links research on AI and digital technologies and their impact on work and employment with concepts from the literature on National Innovation Systems (NISs) and Industrial Ecosystems (IEs), together with research on sustainability and develops a framework that highlights how to leverage the benefits of AI while mitigating the negative consequences for human labour. Additionally, the paper suggests three ways to upgrade NISs and IEs to enable a successful transition to a sustainable future of work.
