Chapter 2 is concerned with multiverse expansion through paratextual assemblage. Paratexts, this chapter argues, are essential fragments by which Shakespeare readings are created. Rather than reading paratexts as introductory matter that draws attention to textual meaning, this chapter suggests that paratexts, which can accommodate material objects such as theater posters, as well as fan rituals, are vibrant matter, loaded with potentiality. The cyborg reader continuously inventories and activates paratexts that draw their attention and assemble them, building backwards to create original Shakespeares.
